MANGALORE: It was luck by chance. None of the expectant mothers had opted for C-section to coincide with the magical date, but were advised by their doctors on a day that saw 38 babies born on 11.11.11.
Of these 38 newborns, 10 were by Caesarean-section in five major hospitals/nursing homes. But the male-female ratio on the rare triplet date was skewed in favour of the male child with as many as 16 newborn were girls.

The numbers are likely to go up as three hospitals had a couple of expectant mothers in the labour room.
One expectant mother Selma Crasta from Urva Stores was all too excited to welcome her second child on the ‘triple date’ at Mangalore Nursing Home here.
“I did not prefer the date. My doctor (Dr Geetanjali Shetty) decided on the date as I was overdue by three days,’’ said Selma.
Her husband, Roshan Stany Crasta, was also excited about the date but said they did not opt for C-section because of the date. “It happened per chance. The operation is also scheduled at 11pm, which was again a decision taken by the doctor. Selma’s first child was through a C-section,’’ he said.
Government Lady Goschen Hospital saw the highest number of deliveries at 19, of which seven were girls and there were six C-sections.
Yenepoya Hospital Kodialbail had seven deliveries of which four were girls and Mangalore Nursing Home had six deliveries of which three were girls.
